Pedra da Anixa
Pedra da Anixa
Pedra da Anixa is a small island located just 250 meters from the coast of Serra da Arrábida, measuring approximately 40 meters long. This island has been shaped by natural processes of erosion, wear, and rock sliding over time, making it a distinctive feature in the landscape. Its complex structure, characterized by platforms, cracks, and underwater cavities, supports a rich diversity of marine micro-habitats. These habitats provide shelter and breeding grounds for a wide variety of marine species, boasting over 70 species of algae and numerous marine invertebrates. Designated with partial protection status as a zoological reserve, Pedra da Anixa stands as a testament to the natural dynamics that shape the Serra da Arrábida, highlighting its ecological significance and the importance of marine conservation in the region.
